thINK FOOD began in 2001 as a cartridge-recycling fundraiser for
Toronto’s Daily Bread Food Bank. With sponsorship support
from Petro-Canada the Ontario
Association of Food Banks expanded the project across the province
to the benefit of all their member food banks.
In April 2002, with continued support from Petro-Canada,
the Canadian
Association of Food Banks led the national roll out of the
project. In the spring of 2003, Purolator became
a national sponsor and the collection of cell phones was initiated
with the launch of Phones-for-Food.
Rogers Wireless set
up the project in their stores and announced their national sponsorship
of thINK FOOD / Phones-for-Food in October 2004.
Today this award-winning project has thousands of businesses; schools
and government offices established as collection sites in support
of hundreds of local food banks across Canada.
